I became passionate about photography after moving here to the West Coast from the North Island. With the unique natural environment, landscapes, the backdrop of the Southern Alps, history, people, places, geology, flora and fauna, I wanted to capture the beauty in photos and not just in my memories.
What I love the most about photography is what it has taught me. The little things in nature that make up the big picture of what we all see and enjoy, for without these little things in nature we would not have the big picture or the world as we know it now. Look for more than the obvious and it's amazing what you see.
My mum says I have come full circle, because as a little girl I always had my head down and bottom up with a magnifying glass and bug catcher and now guess where you will find me on my days off, yep, head down and bottom up with a macro lens taking photos of fungi, bugs etc. The magnifying glass now used more for reading the smaller print.
I moved to digital from my Canon EOS 1n in 2005, then using mostly slide film. A Fuji S5000 and Canon 350D in-between and now have a Canon 450D, Canon lenses, 17-40mm, macro EF 100mm, 70-200mm and a EF 1.4x extender.
I enjoy learning about what I see and take photos of if I am not sure of the subject. To identify everything one would have to be a geologist, botanist and mycologist, which I am not. So through-out my site I have added links that I have learnt from or thought would be of interest, especially in the nature and photos that are a little different. This is one of the wonderful things about the world wide web, you can refer to other's expertise and knowledge. Also check the links page for anything that I find of interest or informative in photography, websites, people, places, etc.

'Lowepro Robin' One of many special moments of photography with nature. I call this image my little Lowepro Robin. He had spent time with us while doing photos up the Alfred River Track, Lewis Pass. Whenever I sat and put my camera bag down he thought it a good advantage point for a closer view of what I was up to.
